I saw this fun survey on a few people's blogs and I wanted to join in. These are some of current favourites...
Current Book:
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry.
It is set in India in the 1970's at a time of turmoil. I am not very far in yet because I'm super busy with school and it is a brick of a book, but I've heard from everyone who has read it that it is very sad, but very thought-provoking. I just love reading things that are set in India. They just make more sense now that I have spent so much time there and I get a little nostalgic...
Current Guilty Pleasure:
Reminiscing endlessly about traveling. I don't like talking about it constantly because I think some of the people in my life are starting to be like "We get it, you went to India, move on!", but I wish I could go back in time and relive some of it! I have been re-reading my travel journals and going through old pictures and it makes me so nostalgic!

This is me rubbing Ganesh's belly for good luck |
In Mysore, all of the cows were painted yellow for a festival |
That guy did that henna in about 2 minutes. Yes, my face is ghostly white. Blame the flash! |
Current Music:
In keeping with my current need to relive last year's trip, I have been listening to some of the music that carried me through long bus and train rides while I was traveling. Some of my favourite bands and artists on the road were The Tallest Man On Earth, Ellie Goulding and Frightened Rabbit. 2 of my 3 favourite songs don't seem to have videos, but I can at least give you the audio.
Current Nail Colour:
None. I can't even remember the last time I painted my nails. It is just too much effort to keep them maintained and I frankly couldn't care less what my nails look like. Just a personal preference!
Current Drink:
I want to make sangria for my birthday! I have never made it before, so I am officially putting out a call for good recipes and tips! Feel free to email me or comment.
Current Triumph:
Finishing my first ever jar of peanut butter! Yes, I finally did it. I introduced PB back into my life at the end of November and I finally finished a big jar of it. And guess what? It has brought me nothing but pure joy and satisfaction. To my great surprise, it did not make my ass expand to twice its size overnight. Kidding, but really, I'm so happy I don't deprive myself anymore :)Current Food:
My first ever Oats in a Jar made from the aforementioned empty peanut butter jar! I made pumpkin pie oats and then topped them with a scoop of PB & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl. This was amazing. I'm still drooling just thinking about it...
Current TV Show:
I wish I could say that I am way into some deep, intellectual drama, but my two faves right now are still New Girl and How I Met Your Mother.
Zooey Deschanel is adorable and I am just tickled pink about Barney and Robin's engagement on HIMYM!
D'awwwww! |
Plus, I have to be deep and intellectual all day for school; can't a girl just let her mind turn to mush once in a while?
Current Wish List:
A new yoga mat! Right now, I have a pretty cheap one from Costco and it always stretches in class instead of staying put. I asked for a good one for my birthday so we'll see what happens!
Current Needs:
Clothes! For my entire university career, I have had to be careful with money and have therefore bought very few articles of clothing. Now that my body is changing again, I think it may be time to invest in a new wardrobe. I want to get things that both fit better and display a little more of the maturity I have acquired over the years :)
Current Bane of My Existence:
Job hunting for the summer. I am in a co-op program, so employers post jobs through a special website just for us co-op students. The problem is, you can only turn down one job offer. If you turn down a second, you are out of the co-op program. I don't know whether to apply for as many things as I can just in case no more good postings become available or hold out for something better. The location of my job will also make a big impact on where I live next year and my landlord has been bugging me about whether or not I am going to re-sign my lease. This is stressful!!
Current Celebrity Crush:
I may have mentioned this before, but I'm crushing pretty hard on Eddie Redmayne right now. I don't know what it is about preppy British guys that I love so much, but I'm smitten. Plus, I'm a sucker for anyone who can sing and/or dance, so after seeing him in Les Mis, it pretty much sealed the deal.
Current Indulgence:
Vanilla pudding! This chemical-laden treat is something I used to love as a kid, but I haven't had it in ages. Well, I'm bringing it back and I'm loving it.
Current Blessing:
New friends. Through school, blogging and daily life I have made some new friends lately that have been wonderfully supportive, fun positive people to have around me. I feel very lucky to have people like that on top of all of the other things I have been granted in life. Let's face it, the fact that we even own computers and are able to blog about all of the delicious food we eat shows that we really are lucky people.
Current Slang:
I thought long and hard about this one and still came up with nothing. I am a bit of a grammar nazi so I try not to butcher the English language when possible. I do use some slang in everyday life, but I don;t have any notable terms that I can offer you.
Current Outfit:
I'm going to do you all a favour and not post a picture for this one. If I am at home, I am either in sweatpants or workout clothes, if I'm at school I am in jeans and a sweater. I wouldn't call myself a fashionista, although I do like to dress up a bit when I go out. Although, as I mentioned earlier, I am in desperate need of some new clothing!
Current Excitement:
My birthday is coming up! I am going to be 22 on the 22nd, so it is my champagne birthday. And yes, I already bought the champagne :)
Current Mood:
I would love to be more positive here, but I am going to be honest and say I'm a bit stressed. Stressed over jobs hunting, apartment hunting, school and even what kind of damn sangria to make next Saturday (okay, that might be an exaggeration)! I think the fact that I am stressed over some of the bigger things makes the little things seem like that much more to worry about. I have been keeping the stress at bay with exercise and friends, but I still think my life will be a whole lot easier when I get hired...
Current Link:
I absolutely love Thought Catalogue and this article really jumped out at me when I saw it. I think it is important for everyone to step out of their comfort zones once in a while, but it is especially important if needing total control is something you struggle with. I have made a few strides outside of my comfort zone lately, from reintroducing scary foods to leaving ballsy notes for cute servers (a situation which ended up having the best outcome!) and I am happier because of it. I encourage you all to read this article and do something a little daring today ;)
Have a good one!
